He has a degree in Economics (1988-93) and an MA in Monetary and Financial Economics (1995-97) from ISEG - Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, and later took a post-graduate course in Risk Management and Derivatives organised by Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Universidade Católica Portuguesa (1999) and the Advanced Management Programme (AMP) at Harvard Business School (2009).
He began his career in the Economic Study Office of the Ministry of Finance in 1993. In 1997 he was appointed director of the Economic Study Office at Finibanco, SA, where he was Chief Economist. In 1999, he was appointed director of Título, Sociedade Financeira de Corretagem, SA, while continuing in his other position. In 2006, he was appointed director of Banif Gestão de Activos and Banif Açor Pensões and was also Coordinating Director of Banif Banco de Investimento.
In 2007 he was appointed director of Banif International Asset Management and Banif Multifund. In 2010 he also took over as director of Banif Capital and Floresta Atlântica, SGFII, SA and BankPime, SGIIC. At the same time, he has had a busy teaching career and lectures in degree and post-graduate courses at several universities, including Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Universidade Lusíada and Universidade Lusófona.
